Community Disaster Prevention & Relief

Purpose

Based on the mission of "Publicizing Disaster Prevention and Localizing Disaster Relief", The Mustard Seed Mission has served local communities in Taiwan for 70 years and is fully aware of the urgency of community disaster prevention.

Standing at the front line to learn about local needs, we promote the concept of community disaster prevention, build a network for community disaster prevention, and raise community residents' awareness of disaster prevention, self-protection, emergency identification, and corresponding measures to be taken in times of emergency.

Through the establishment of food banks and Emergency Supplies Storage Site, we are always ready to be an instant help to the community in times of need.

Our Beloved Home Shrouded in Hazard

Under the impact of climate change and extreme weather such as typhoons, landslides, floods, etc., we are now facing the toughest challenge which doesn't seem to go away but will only be intensified in the future.

"We are grateful that The Mustard Seed Mission still remembered us when our resources were running short."

"Whenever there is heavy rain, the road system in our tribe would always be obstructed."

As of today, there are still many indigenous tribes in Taiwan that are difficult to reach or even out of reach. In the past, the 1999 Jiji earthquake, Typhoon Toraji, and the August 8 Flood have all inflicted a huge change on the landscape and topography of the mountain districts.

When there are tropical cyclones or heavy rains, the roads and bridges connecting the tribe to the outside world would be severely damaged, leaving the tribe completely isolated from external support. By visiting the tribes, The Mustard Seed Mission worked closely with the local communities in establishing Emergency Supplies Storage Site and publicizing the concept of "prevention is better than cure" to the local residents.
