Our Founder & Milestones

Our Founder

Born on January 29, 1901, in the State of Minnesota, USA, Missionary Lillian R. Dickson moved to Taiwan after marrying Pastor James Ira Dickson in 1927, but returned to the US shortly afterward due to WWII.

After the war, she came back to Taiwan once again and founded The Mustard Seed Mission, the first registered social welfare organization in Taiwan.

In the role of a missionary wife, she engaged deeply in social services by providing care to the disadvantaged people.

She provided free clinics to the aborigines by setting up mountain clinics, mountain sanitariums for pulmonary diseases, and maternity hospitals. She cared for patients with Hansen's Disease and Blackfoot Disease by providing them medical services and vocational training.

She equipped the aborigines with marketable skills through technical and vocational education. She even provided comprehensive placement and care programs for children and young adults by establishing a nursing home.

With her dedication in Taiwan for half a century, she has assisted nearly a million people and was therefore known as the "Mother of Lepers", the "Mother of the Blinds", the "Mother of Orphans", and the "Mother of Mountains" in Taiwan.

In 1983, at the age of 82, she passed away at work and was buried with her husband at Taiwan Theological College and Seminary.
