Children Sponsorship

Purpose

In cooperation with overseas partners on children sponsorship, the Mustard Seed Mission provides children from disadvantaged families with a stable life by assisting them in acquiring the school education they need, engaging them in character building, changing the children's living conditions for the better, and achieving the goal of completing mandatory education. To improve their standard of living, we provide each child with a sleeping bed and a balanced diet so that they can grow up with good physical and mental health. By paying regular visits to the children and youth, our staff workers distribute school supplies to lift the family's burdens and organize vocational training and group courses to improve community interactions.

A Cow for A Family

Since Da and Narin’s mother died early and their father left them without ever returning home, the sponsored child Da (elder sister) and Narin (younger brother) have been living with their grandmother in their relatives' houses and made a living by picking and selling cow manure.

Since their grandmother passed away due to old age, malnutrition, and illness in 2020, the siblings had to live with their eldest aunt instead. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the child sponsor provided a cash subsidy of NT$5,000 to the family and our collaborative partner taught the family how to make good use of the cash gift.

After discussion, the family decided to buy a cattle to make money for the children's education and life expenses in the future. Unfortunately, the elder sister Da passed away soon after being diagnosed with heart disease, nephrotic syndrome, malnutrition, and inflammatory bowel disease. After consulting with the child sponsor of the elder sister, the two cash gifts originally intended for the siblings were transferred to the younger brother instead to make their dream of buying a cattle a reality.

In order to ensure that the funds were allocated exclusively to buying and raising cattle, the local staff member of the Mustard Seed Mission signed a contract with the aunt under the witness of the third party to ensure that the proceedings generated from the cattle will not be taken by the aunt for personal use. Being able to own a cow is undoubtedly a great booster for the family who used to pick cow manure for a living.

Though disappointed that he was unable to share the joy with his sister, Nari would like to thank the child sponsor for the stable life he was provided with. Even though there are tears and laughter, goodness and beauty will accompany children in every step of the way throughout their growing process, and we are always pleased to be part of it.
