Family Service Center

Our Mission

Entrusted by the government sector, The Mustard Seed Mission organized the Indigenous Family Service Center to develop talents who engage in the social work for indigenous people, provide family service to the aboriginal tribes, and find indigenous families who are in need at the early stage. By gathering the power of the aboriginal tribes, we provide a wide range of supportive services for the indigenous families so that they are restored and empowered to improve their standard of living, thereby providing their family members with a stable life.

Service Targets

Indigenous people who apply for household registration or live in the target areas, including children, youth, women, seniors, and other indigenous families.

As of the end of September 2011, the total population of indigenous people in Taiwan was 582,846, accounting for about 2% of the total population in Taiwan. Of all the indigenous populations, 167,123 live in mountains, 131,705 live on plains, and 284,018 live in metropolitan areas (non-indigenous areas). Located in remote, mountainous areas of high altitudes, the accessibility of social welfare service resources in indigenous areas is insufficient. Due to the need of indigenous families for employment and schooling, the indigenous tribes face population migration to urban areas and are left with a weak social support system. Facing insufficient social welfare and community resource over the years, the tribe is in urgent need of more care and social resources.

Service Features

Staffed with local aborigines, the service center improves the social workers' proficiency in providing social service through social worker training and social welfare courses. With culturally sensitive identities, the social workers empathize with the local tribesmen for the difficulties they are facing and tide them over the impact brought about by the rapid changes and population diversity.
