What to Expect

Practical Questions, Answered

Review the practical details before applying, especially if you will be traveling to Taiwan.

01

Do I need a visa?

MSM does not sponsor visas directly, but we can advise on relevant government or NGO visitor/volunteer programs that may apply to you. Taiwan's government sets its own requirements for international volunteers — including proof of sufficient funds — so please plan ahead. Visa arrangements are ultimately your responsibility.

02

Where will I stay?

MSM provides institutional accommodation during your service period at our sites in Northern and Eastern Taiwan.

03

How long is a placement?

There's no fixed minimum. International volunteers tend to find longer placements more meaningful — but we welcome you at whatever length works for you.

04

Is there a cost?

Volunteering with MSM is free — there's no program fee. During your service, accommodation and meals may be provided in exchange for your work. Other living costs are your own responsibility.

05

Do I need to speak Mandarin?

No — but please let us know your language situation in your application, so we can plan a placement and support that fits.

Who Can Apply

Open to Every Nationality

We welcome applicants of any nationality. If you're applying from abroad, please review the visa guidance above before starting your application. If you're already living in Taiwan, you can apply directly — no additional steps required.
