Summary
Taiwan has faced consecutive impacts from Typhoons Krathon and Kong-rey, causing widespread flooding, landslides, and severe infrastructure damage. The Mustard Seed Mission (MSM) leads a comprehensive relief effort to aid impacted communities, addressing urgent needs like food and shelter while focusing on sustainable rebuilding. By supporting recovery and equipping communities with tools to face future storms, this project builds resilience against the growing threat of natural disasters.

Challenge
Typhoons Krathon and Kong-rey have severely impacted Taiwan, causing displacement and infrastructure damage in areas like Taoyuan, Hualien, and Taitung. With destroyed roads, submerged homes, and widespread outages, access is limited, leaving many families without essentials. Repeated storms have weakened critical infrastructure, delaying recovery and heightening vulnerability. This project provides essential support to help affected regions regain stability and resilience.

Solution
MSM’s dual response includes immediate aid (food, water, emergency supplies) and infrastructure rehabilitation to help affected families. Alongside relief for Krathon survivors, MSM’s support extends to Kong-rey victims, focusing on shelter repairs, community resilience training, and agricultural grants for long-term stability in rural areas:

  1. Immediate Relief: Distributing food, water, and emergency supplies, such as blankets and hygiene kits, to displaced families. We also provide cash relief for urgent needs, such as roof repairs and temporary housing.

  2. Infrastructure Rehabilitation: MSM will continue repairing homes, particularly in remote and indigenous areas, to ensure families can return to safe living conditions. This includes reinforcing structures to better withstand future storms.

  3. Long-Term Support: In addition to immediate aid, MSM is focused on disaster preparedness and resilience training in rural and indigenous areas, ensuring these communities have the resources and knowledge to face future disasters. Our team will also provide agricultural grants to help farmers restart their activities after significant crop loss.

Long-Term Impact
This project will initially benefit over 200 families, providing immediate relief and facilitating long-term recovery. By rebuilding homes, restoring agricultural livelihoods, and offering disaster preparedness training, we aim to ensure these communities emerge stronger and more resilient. Our continued partnership with local governments and communities will empower these areas to be better prepared for future natural disasters, minimizing future losses and fostering a more secure future.
