Sending Love Out, Connecting Taiwan with Love

The year-end and Lunar New Year are a time for celebration and family reunions. However, for many economically disadvantaged families in Taiwan, these festive seasons can be a time of anxiety and stress. Struggling to make ends meet, these families may not be able to afford the traditional New Year delicacies, red envelopes for children, or even basic necessities.

Recognizing this need, The Mustard Seed Mission (MSM) has launched its annual "Sending Love Out, Connecting Taiwan with Love" campaign. This campaign aims to raise funds and resources to provide disadvantaged families with essential support during this important time of year.

A Commitment to Caring for Vulnerable Families

The Mustard Seed Mission currently serves 4,447 economically disadvantaged families across Taiwan, caring for 6,383 vulnerable children. The primary caregivers in these families often face significant economic and parenting challenges. Long-term physical fatigue can lead to health problems, while psychological stress can contribute to depression and low self-esteem.

"The recovery of disadvantaged children's families is The Mustard Seed Mission's responsibility," says CEO Jeffrey Lee. "We need to help not only the children but also the primary caregivers, because they have a direct impact on the parent-child relationship, which is equally important."

Spreading Love and Hope to Communities

Through its "Sending Love Out" campaign, The Mustard Seed Mission delivers "Blessing Boxes" filled with essential food items, cleaning supplies, and other necessities to families in need. These boxes are a tangible expression of love and support, bringing hope and joy to those who are struggling.

The campaign also includes "Prayer Cards" and "Red Envelopes" filled with New Year blessings. These gestures of kindness and compassion remind families that they are not alone and that there is a community of people who care about them.

Stories of Resilience and Hope

The stories of Yun, Hui, Grandma Tsai, and Hao and his family illustrate the profound impact of The Mustard Seed Mission's work.

Yun's husband passed away in a car accident, leaving her to raise their young child alone. With limited income and no family support, Yun struggled to make ends meet. She often went without food so that her child could eat. MSM stepped in to provide Yun with financial assistance, food, and other necessities. With this support, Yun was able to get back on her feet and provide a stable home for her child.

Hui is a cancer patient who works two jobs to support her two children. Her long work hours and frequent medical appointments leave her with little time for herself or her children. MSM provides Hui with child care assistance and financial support. This allows Hui to focus on her health and her children's well-being.

Grandma Tsai is a 70-year-old widow who cares for her son and grandson. Her son is unable to work due to a health condition, and her grandson is still in school. MSM provides Grandma Tsai with food and other necessities. This support helps to ensure that Grandma Tsai and her family have enough to eat and that her grandson can focus on his education.

Hao is a young boy with type 1 diabetes. His mother, Shiue, is a single parent and new immigrant to Taiwan. Hao's condition requires constant care, which puts a strain on Shiue's physical and emotional health. MSM provides Hao and his family with financial assistance, medical supplies, and emotional support. This support helps to improve Hao's quality of life and allows Shiue to focus on caring for her son.

The stories of Yun, Hui, Grandma Tsai, and Hao's family are just a few examples of the many families that The Mustard Seed Mission is helping. Through its "Sending Love Out" campaign, MSM is providing hope and a brighter future to those who need it most.
