Learn, Click, Launch: Youth Build Businesses and Confidence

In the unpredictable economy of today, young people are feeling the financial pressure more than ever. For youth from disadvantaged families, the stakes are even higher—with fewer resources and limited access. As the job market grows more competitive, how do you equip them with the tools that truly give them a chance?

Empowering Through E-Commerce

At The Mustard Seed Mission, we believe in practical skills and real-world empowerment. That’s why our Taipei Center launched the Youth Ignite E-Commerce Training Course in 2025. A hands-on program taught by the entrepreneur couple behind Joponp’ie Select, designed to help teens explore e-commerce as a potential career path.

E-commerce remains one of the most accessible routes into entrepreneurship. With a lower barrier to entry and startup costs than most other industries, especially for this generation of digital natives. It offers a place to earn, grow, and even fail safely. And with mentors who share their strategies and missteps, this course is the express route to success.

Lessons That Go Beyond the Screen

Over 6 weeks, students learned about research products, selling across platforms, designing storefronts, creating product photos with Canva, and managing logistics. But what stood out was the real-life stories that the instructors shared along their journey. Hard-earned lessons about getting scammed and dealing with unpaid taxes when they were just starting out. These anecdotes showed students that being a self-starter isn’t about being perfect, but about resilience and growth.

Before enrollment, each student went through an interview screening to ensure they had the right motives and were aligned with the course’s goal. We also prioritized admitting applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds, like sponsored youth, school dropouts, or referrals from other social services. Throughout the course, they showed initiative and dedication, asking thoughtful questions, completing coursework, and fully engaging with the material.

Stories of Grit

Ning-Ning is a 14-year-old girl with a transformation we didn’t expect. Her aunt shared that she had withdrawn from school and struggled to engage with others. At first, she would only respond with non-verbal gestures. But with patience and gentle support, she showed incredible dedication. Completing every assignment, earning perfect attendance, and beginning to speak in simple sentences.

Nini, on the other hand, joined the course with the simple goal: to help ease her mom’s burden. Raised by a single mother alongside her sister, she was focused and driven, determined to contribute. After the course, she opened her own online store, her first step toward building an additional revenue stream for her family.

Launch the Youth into Success

The youth ignite E-Commerce course didn’t just teach teens how to run an online store. It gave them the tools to manifest more for themselves. By the end of the course, 3 students had officially started their online business and made their first sales.

With your support, we can expand impact like this. Equipping more youth with the tools, guidance, and mindsets they need to learn, click, and launch into a brighter future.
