New Beginnings for Families After Danas

New Beginnings for Families After Danas

When Typhoon Danas struck southern Taiwan on July 6, 2025, its violent winds and flooding caused severe damage to coastal and rural communities. Roofs were torn away, homes flooded within minutes, and thousands faced days without electricity or clean water. Vulnerable families—elderly residents, single parents, and households already in poverty—were hit the hardest.

Thanks to your support, The Mustard Seed Mission provided immediate relief and long-term recovery assistance for affected households across Tainan, Chiayi, Yunlin, and Changhua.

What Your Support Made Possible

Emergency Relief (July 4–12)

  • 105 households received 145 emergency supply boxes
  • 21 families received NT$168,000 in emergency cash
  • Disaster assessments conducted across 14 townships

These early interventions stabilized families during power outages, flooding, and loss of essential items.

Household Support for Daily Living

  • 16 households received new appliances & furniture
  • Children received replacement school supplies to continue schooling
  • Cash assistance & living subsidies provided for families with urgent needs

For many low-income families, replacing even one damaged appliance can be impossible. These supports restored dignity and daily functioning.

Home Repairs & Reconstruction

A total of 15 damaged homes were repaired between July and November, including:

  • Tainan – 4 households
  • Chiayi – 6 households
  • Yunlin – 4 households
  • Changhua – 1 household

Repairs included roofs, walls, ceilings, leaks, electrical damages, and collapsed structures.

One elderly homeowner in Chiayi described the moment his reconstructed roof was completed:
“For the first time since the typhoon, I can sleep without worrying about the rain.”

Cleanup and Recovery Assistance

  • 9 households received full home cleanup and debris removal
  • Mud, broken windows, fallen beams, and damaged furniture were cleared
  • Special support provided to elderly homeowners unable to clean safely on their own

A Story That Reflects Many Others

In Tainan’s Jiangjun District, Ms. Mei and her two children stayed awake through the storm as their roof rattled violently. By dawn, rooms were flooded, and their kitchen destroyed. Within hours, our team reached them with emergency supplies and comfort.

Her family’s journey—from fear, to safety, to a repaired home—captures the heart of this project.

Thank You for Making New Beginnings Possible

Your generosity restored homes, protected vulnerable families, and helped entire communities regain stability.

Because of you, families have a safe place to sleep—and hope for tomorrow.

With gratitude,
The Mustard Seed Mission
