A Wider Safety Net: Expanding Our Reach in Eastern Taiwan

In recent years, eastern Taiwan has faced disaster after disaster—from the powerful Hualien April 3rd earthquakes, to record-breaking typhoons like Gaemi, Krathon, Kong-rey, and this year’s Danas and Ragasa. Each emergency has revealed the same truth: vulnerable families in this region face steep challenges in accessing even the most basic necessities.

Growing Needs

In response, The Mustard Seed Mission has upgraded our warehouse facility in Hualien, a key move to strengthen our Ending Hunger | A Community Giving Network. This newly expanded hub is more than just storage; it’s a strategic investment in reaching families who are too often out of reach.

In July alone, our outgoing support boxes rose 30% compared to the previous year, a clear indicator of rising need. Working in tandem with our other locations in Taipei and Taitung, the Hualien warehouse now operates as the main supply base for Hualien, Taitung, and nearby Indigenous communities. This growing network helps us deliver both daily care boxes and emergency goods faster and with less logistical strain, especially in times of crisis.

Response with Care

Through our LoveLife Center online platform, families in need are given monthly points they can use to choose the essentials they actually need: shampoo, laundry detergent, shelf-stable food, baby formula, diapers, and more. It’s a personalized, respectful system that meets real needs while cutting down on waste.

The upgraded warehouse also reflects our expanded approach to how we serve families. Alongside storage space, the site offers flexible job opportunities for those recovering from personal or natural disasters. Like Shu Fen, a single mother who was forced to leave her job after suffering from a gas leak injury. Now working as part of the warehouse team, she says:
“My kids can come with me while I work. We’re not just the ones being helped—we’re starting to help others too.”

More than just a facility, this warehouse represents a shift from reactive relief to proactive resilience. We are no longer waiting for disaster to strike before we act. We’re building a smarter and more compassionate network. One that reaches people before they’re in full crisis.

Let’s Extend the Reach

Your financial support makes this work possible. By contributing to the Ending Hunger program, you help us stock this warehouse and get them into the hands of those who need them most, when it matters most.

Together, we can build a Taiwan where care reaches everywhere, every time.
