The Meals She Once Wished For

In the kitchen, Jun prepares the kind of meals that feel familiar at the end of a long day.

Braised pork belly. Spicy doubanjiang spare ribs. Home-style dishes that can be heated, shared, and placed on the table when a family needs something warm and ready.

These meals are part of The Mustard Seed Mission’s Warm Meal Box service, available to families supported through CARE Platform. For some households, groceries alone are not always enough. A child may be home alone and unable to cook safely. A caregiver may return late from work with little time or energy to prepare dinner. In those moments, a ready-to-heat meal can help a family get through the evening with less pressure.

That pressure is something Jun understands deeply.

A Family Under Pressure

Four years ago, a workplace accident left Jun unable to work. As a single mother raising two children, she suddenly faced a growing financial burden. Medical bills continued to accumulate. Daily expenses did not pause. Government and community support helped cover part of the gap, but rent, meals, transportation, medical care, and the cost of raising two children still outweighed what she could manage.

During that difficult period, MSM became one of the stabilizing forces for her household.

Through child sponsorship and the CARE Platform, Jun’s family received more than a fixed package of supplies. Each month, she could use CARE points to choose what her family needed, from food and household essentials to items her children used daily.

For families living close to the edge, support is not only about receiving help. It is also about keeping some control over daily decisions. The CARE Platform allows them to make those choices for their own family.

From Receiving Support to Preparing It

In 2025, a new opportunity emerged. Knowing that Jun had experience in cooking, MSM invited her to join the Warm Meal Box production team.

The Warm Meal Box is designed as part of Ending Hunger’s wider community giving network. The meals are prepared by people who have received MSM support and training, creating a cycle where families are not only helped through crisis, but can also use their skills to support others when the opportunity comes.

Jun's hands, once struggling to keep meals steady at home, are now preparing food for other families facing similar pressure. This doesn't mean every challenge has disappeared for her. But it does show what becomes possible when support is designed with dignity in mind. Jun was not only a recipient of care. Her skills now became part of the care system itself.

Help Keep the Network Moving

Today, the meals Jun prepares help children and caregivers get through difficult evenings with something warm, practical, and familiar on the table.

Her story shows the core value of Ending Hunger: not simply delivering food, but building a community giving network where families can regain stability, make choices for themselves, and, when possible, help extend that same care to others.

You can help keep this network moving. By supporting the Ending Hunger Project, you help provide CARE Platform resources, logistics, Warm Meal Boxes, and practical support for families in Taiwan facing food and resource insecurity.
