The value of Mustard Seed Youth Home in Hualien is to provide deprived teenagers, a "home" to shelter in protection. In addition to the environment, there are also a group of "family members" who accompany and help the teens in their lives. Most of the children who came to the Youth Home were not properly cared for in childhood, and some children changed residential placement facilities many times, and finally came to the Youth Home. These children often use behaviors or emotions to try out, because they have been wrongly treated since childhood, causing them to not believe that someone is willing to care about them unconditionally. Therefore, the staff often has to accept the sudden outbursts of children's emotions, and it is even more necessary to empathize with the messages that each child wants to convey behind the negative behavior.

As long as there are children in the Youth Home, no matter it’s weekdays or holidays, they will accompany them. This group of people are the most important factors of the Youth Home’s services and are “life assistant teachers” who have received professional care training. They are like elder brothers and sisters to the youths, a role model for teenagers to respect and learn, and it is also the person that children depend on most in their daily life.
